SAN ANTONIO – Mistakes late in both games proved costly for the St. Mary's Softball team as they lost both games of a doubleheader against Eastern New Mexico to start Lone Star Conference play.Â

The Rattlers (9-4, 0-2 Lone Star) fell 3-2 in 10 innings in game one – in a game that lasted over 3.5 hours – and then saw the Greyhounds (10-4, 2-0 Lone Star) fight back in the seventh inning of game two for the 5-3 win.

Both pitchers went the distance in the first game as StMU senior
Catalina Cavazos threw 177 pitched over 10 innings, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with four walks and six strikeouts. ENMU's Brook Leger threw 193 pitches, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits with 10 walks and four strikeouts.

The seven Rattlers hits were spread out to seven players and sophomore
Kaylynne Ruiz (Eagle Pass, Texas) walked three times.

In the nightcap, the Rattlers put three runs on the board in the fourth before the Greyhounds plated five runs on five hits with one error to complete the comeback.

Sophomore Maddie Bloom (Poway, Calif.) pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts in a no decision. Sophomore
Savannah Youngblood (Kingwood, Texas) moved to 2-1 on the year after giving up two runs on two hits with a walk.

Offensively, both junior
Reba Reyes (Brownsville, Texas) and senior
Lauren Garcia (San Antonio) were 2-for-3 at the plate. Reyes scored once and Garcia had an RBI.

The two teams conclude the three-game series at the Park at StMU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
