SAN ANTONIO – Playing at home for the first time this season, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis team shutout cross town foe, Our Lady of the Lake, 7-0.

The Rattlers, currently ranked 12th in the nation, won all six singles matches in straight sets and all three doubles matches for their fifth win of the season.

The freshmen duo of
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) and
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) started off the morning with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. The duo of sophomore
Bailey Godwin (San Antonio) and senior
Angela Vargas (Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico) finished second with the 6-4 victory to give the Rattlers the doubles point. The #1 doubles team in the South Central Region of senior
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) and junior Kendall Quiroz (San Antonio) won a hard-fought battle, getting a late break of served to win 7-5.

Sifuentes carried over the momentum from doubles, not allowing her opponent a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6. Penshorn, currently ranked 12th in the nation finished second on the No. 1 court after a 6-0, 6-3 win.

Elena Munoz (Corregidora, Queretaro, Mexico) clinched it for the Rattlers with her 6-1, 7-5 score at #5. Vargas only dropped four games in her win at #2, 6-0, 6-4 and senior
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fourth spot. Quiroz rounded out the sweep with her 6-4, 6-3 tally at #3.Â

The Rattlers begin defense of their Lone Star Conference title on Feb. 24 at Lubbock Christian. First serve is scheduled for Noon at the newest tennis team in the league.
