SAN ANTONIO – Playing its second match in less than 24 hours, the St. Mary's Men's Tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to cross town foe, Our Lady of the Lake.
Â
Juniors
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) and
Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) dropped only one game at #2 doubles, winning 6-1 and the #3 duo of freshman
Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttmberg, Germany) and senior Sebasian Azcui (La Paz, Bolivia) won 6-2 at #3 to earn the doubles point for the Gold & Blue (5-1).
Â
"We played some solid doubles today," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "We just couldn't seem to carry that momentum into all the singles courts."
Â
Faryniarz kicked off singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Â
The Saints won the next three matches at No. 1, 2 and 4 to take the lead at 3-2. Llosa tied the match with his 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, but junior
Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) couldn't pull off the comeback, falling in three sets.
Â
"We struggled to convert many of the deuce points in singles," Macom continued. "However, this is why we schedule a good team like OLLU before conference matches to give us some time to fix things."
Â
The next match for the Rattlers is the Lone Star Conference opener at Lubbock Christian on Friday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m.
