SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University senior
Cian Foley continues to make history for the Rattlers as he was named to the 2023 Academic All-America Men's Soccer Second Team by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
Â
Foley, a graduate student from Wexford, Ireland, becomes the first-ever Academic All-America selection in St. Mary's Men's Soccer. Five others have earned Academic All-District honors, but none before have made the prestigious All-America team.
Â
He was also named to both the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA All-Region teams, and the Lone Star All-Conference and All-Academic teams earlier this season. Foley was not only a main offensive weapon for the Rattlers, but also a vocal leader on the pitch. He started all 19 games, scoring nine goals and adding six assists for a team-best 24 points. He scored four game-winning goals and ranked among the nation's leaders after making all five of his penalty kicks.
Â
Foley earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology last May and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In addition to playing soccer and going to school full-time, he is also a graduate assistant in the athletic department's compliance office.
