DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team made a season-high 12 three-pointers in the first game at the Daytona Beach Shootout, however, so did the opponents as the Rattlers fell 81-72 to Montana State-Billings on Sunday evening.

Senior guard
Keith Dinwiddie (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Rattlers (4-5) with 20 points, topping the milestone for the second time this season, while senior
Davion Coleman (Houston) added 15, junior
Micah Jones (Durham, N.C.) was two off his career-high with 14 and senior
Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) chipped in 11 points. The quartet combined to hit all 12 three-pointers in the contest.

Both Dinwiddie and senior
Lachlan Bofinger (Sydney, Australia) led the team with six rebounds and Dinwiddie recorded a team-best five assists, tying for game-high honors.

Both teams relied on the three-pointer in the first half as the teams combined to sink 12. Caron and Coleman had two each for the Rattlers, while Dinwiddie added a fifth. Coleman scored the first 10 points for the Gold and Blue in the opening five minutes, before Bofinger made a free throw. Coleman ended the half with 15 points as the Rattlers trailed 40-34.

The trend continued in the second half as the first six made buckets were all behind the arc, with four coming from the Yellowjackets as they built a 15-point edge, 55-40. The teams traded baskets over the next 100 seconds with Jones hitting all three for the Rattlers – including a pair of triples to cut the deficit to 11, 59-48. The Yellowjackets built their lead back out to 20, 68-48 with 10:29 left and the Rattlers continued to chip away but couldn't get closer than eight the remainder of the night.

Daniel Moody led the game with 24 points for the Yellowjackets, adding a game-high 11 rebounds and Bryce Whitaker led MSUB with five assists.

St. Mary's made half of its shots from beyond the arc as the team was 24-for-62 from the field (38.7 percent) and 12-for-31 (38.7%) from the three-point line. The team used its fifth different starting lineup of the year but was unable to move into the win column.

The Rattlers have 24 hours until they hit the court again, wrapping up the Daytona Beach Shootout with the first-ever meeting against Dominican (N.Y.). The Chargers defeated West Liberty 112-101 earlier on Sunday.
