SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team almost pulled off their second-straight improbable comeback, but Cameron University held on for the 64-58 decision on Tuesday afternoon inside Bill Greehey Arena.
Â
The Rattlers (2-6, 2-2 Lone Star Conference) got a career-high in rebounds by freshman
Ramsey Robledo (San Antonio), who tripled her previous high of three with a game-high nine. She narrowly missed the first double-double of her career, adding 14 points.
Â
Fellow freshman
Taylor Haggan (Parker, Texas) led the team with 15 points, while senior
Teanna Huggins (San Antonio) also scored in double digits with 10. Huggins also had a team-high four assists and four steals.
Â
Early turnovers in the game proved costly, as the Aggies (3-7, 1-3 Lone Star) scored 12 points in the first half off 13 Rattler miscues. Crashing the boards kept the game close as the Rattlers outrebounded CU 25-11 and held them to only one offensive rebound.
Â
Junior
Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) made her first three-pointer of the season, sinking back-to-back triples in the final minute of the first quarter to draw the Rattlers within one, 14-13.
Â
The Rattlers step out of Lone Star Conference action for the final two games of the 2023 calendar year, heading to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Daytona Beach Shootout. StMU will face conference foe, West Texas A&M on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. and take on #16 Montana State-Billings on Dec. 18 at 6 p.m.
