SAN ANTONIO — The blocks remained big, but the result flipped for the St. Mary's University Volleyball team as they fell in four sets to Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon, 20-25, 25-18, 17-25, 19-25.
Â
The Rattlers (8-9, 3-3 Lone Star Conference) collected another 14.0 blocks after 9.5 on Friday night, led by sophomore MB
Dallasstar Johnson with a season-high seven. Still, the team struggled in other aspects of the game on Senior Day. The 22 block assists by the Gold and Blue ties for the third most in a four-set match in the modern scoring era (since 2008), while the 14.0 total blocks is third.
Â
Before the first serve, the four Rattlers on the team were honored for their efforts and all four were in the starting rotation during game one.
Lindsey Ogle (Houston) recorded the 100th block of her career for the team's 19th point in set one, while
Aislan Lennon (Houston) collected a season-high 17 assists.
Josie Disponette (Wilmore, Kent.) tallied two kills and one assist and
Brianna Morris-Worth (Yukon, Okla.) had three kills and three blocks.
Â
For the fourth time in the last five matches, junior RS
Alicia Virthe (Orlando, Fla.) led the team in kills, collecting 11 and she was the only Rattler to post double digits.
Â
Both sophomore L Lindsey Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) and sophomore OH
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) were in double figures in digs with 15 and 11, respectively. Koehl and Johnson also had two aces each as both teams tallied five on the day.
Â
The Rattlers have a quick turnaround as they travel to Austin for the Battle of the Saints on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The team also heads to Western New Mexico for a 6 p.m. match on Friday evening. The Hilltoppers swept Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.
