Box Score PORTALES, N.M. — Just as the heat seemed to affect Eastern New Mexico 10 days ago in San Antonio, the colder weather in Portales on Saturday evening seemed to have the 16th-ranked St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team a step slow as they were upset 4-2.
Â
It is the first time since Oct. 30, 2021 the Rattlers (6-3-2, 0-1-1 Lone Star Conference) have allowed four goals in a game and the first time since 2019 the Greyhounds (3-5-2, 1-1-0 Lone Star) have even scored a goal against the Gold and Blue.
Â
Sophomore
Adam Aboohamidi (Wolfforth, Texas) scored the first goal of the game and his first of the season, finding the bottom right corner of the net in the 15th minute for the early lead.Â
Â
The Greyhounds scored the next three goals to head into the locker room with the 3-1 advantage.
Â
Fifteen minutes into the second half, senior
Cian Foley (Wexford, Ireland) pulled the Rattlers within one, taking a feed from freshman
Avery Estell (Flower Mound, Texas) for his sixth goal of the season.
Â
In the 85th minute, ENMU added its fourth goal for the 4-2 final.
Â
The Rattlers remain on the road, playing at West Texas A&M on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Buffs won 5-0 in Lubbock earlier on Saturday.
