Strong Defensive Effort Not Enough in Volleyball Loss at Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The St. Mary's University Volleyball team reached the halfway point first in each of the first three sets, but Angelo State University showed why they are one of the best teams in the Lone Star Conference, coming from behind to win all three, 25-15, 25-21, 25-23.

The defense for the Rattlers (10-11, 5-5 Lone Star Conference) kept them in the rallies as they recorded 74 digs in the three sets. The 74 is the seventh-most in a three-set match in StMU rally scoring history. Sophomore libero Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) topped the 20-dig milestone for the fourth time this season, leading the team with 21. She also led the club with two service aces.

Junior setter Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas) posted her second-straight double-double with a team-high 14 assists and 17 digs. Senior setter Aislan Lennon (Houston) chipped in 11 assists.

The pair's favorite target on the afternoon was sophomore Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas), who led the team with eight kills and added 10 digs. Senior Lindsey Ogle (Houston) collected six kills, hitting .357 (6-1-14) and she had two blocks. Freshman Madi Milligan (San Antonio) led the team with three.

Evelyn Torres and Hannah Kinnison each had 12 kills for ASU to lead the match, while Caleigh Enax led a trio of Belles in double-digit digs with 19.

After four-straight matches on the road, the Rattlers finally return home, hosting Texas A&M International on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The reprieve from the road is short-lived, however, as they play at Oklahoma Christian on Friday and UAFS on Saturday in a busy week.
