Elliott Tallies Third Double-Double for WBB against UTPB

SAN ANTONIO – Despite shooting over 40 percent from the field, the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team could never quite get over the hump, dropping a 74-60 decision on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman forward Gabby Elliott (San Antonio) collected the third double-double of her young career with a team-high 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Junior Ariah Powell (Detroit, Mich.) came off the bench to score 10. Elliott also added two blocked shots.

Junior Teanna Huggins (San Antonio) had a game-high five assists, added three steals and seven points.

Several times during the fourth quarter, the Rattlers (6-12, 2-10 Lone Star) cut the deficit to seven, but each time the Falcons (9-10, 6-7 Lone Star) had a response.

The Rattlers won the battle of the boards, getting 35 compared to 31 for the Falcons with each team grabbing 15 on the offensive end of the floor.

After shooting just 33 percent in the first quarter, StMU shot 62.5 percent in the second period. They kept up the strong shooting in the third quarter, connecting at a 58.3 percent clip. The Rattlers won the third period, 21-16, but hit just 2-of-12 in the fourth quarter.
