SAN ANTONIO –
Caleb Jordan made all six free throw attempts in the final 30 seconds of the game after fellow St. Mary's senior
Ryan Leonard poured in a career-best 23 points, helping the Men's Basketball team win 69-59 over UT Permian Basin on Saturday evening.
Â
Leonard, a senior from Kerry, Ireland, surpassed his previous career-high of 21 after going 5-of-7 from the three-point line and 8-of-10 from the field. He also added five rebounds and four steals in the win.
Â
Jordan scored 19 – nine at the free throw line, while senior
Emmanuel Ewuzie chipped in 14 and led the game with seven rebounds.
Â
The Rattlers (9-8, 6-6 Lone Star) made 22 of 32 attempts at the free throw line, the second-highest number of points at the charity stripe this season.
Â
Leonard helped turn the tide for the Rattlers in the second half after the Falcons (10-11, 4-8 Lone Star) jumped out to a seven-point lead, 39-32. He hit four consecutive three-pointers (inn five attempts) to give the team a 44-43 advantage with 13:01 on the clock.
Â
Jalon Johnson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) led the game with five assists, while junior
Lovre Zaja (Zagreb, Croatia) had a team-best two steals.
Â
StMU, one of the top offensive rebounding teams in the country, was limited to just six on the night, but a lot of that was due to the fact the Rattlers shot 50 percent from the field. The teams also did a great job of sharing the ball, collecting 16 assists on 20 made baskets.
Â
The Rattlers play the final three games of January on the road, beginning with a rematch against Texas A&M International on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
