OKLAHOMA CITY – For the first time all season, the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team was unable to connect on a three-pointer as they had a tough shooting day at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, falling 71-50.

The Rattlers (6-10, 2-8 Lone Star) were once again led by freshman
Gabby Elliott (San Antonio), as the forward scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Both junior
Teanna Huggins (San Antonio) and sophomore
Faith Phillips (San Marcos, Texas) chipped in seven points each and junior
Jaedyn Dunn (Houston) led with three assists.

Brooklin Bain led the Eagles (3-12, 3-8 LSC) with a game-high 18 points, while Jordan Francisco added 15 points and a game-high seven rebounds and Daijah Torns chipped in 13 points.Â

The Eagles scored the first eight points of the game before Elliott scored on a traditional three-point play with 6:41 on the clock. Trailing 12-3, the Rattlers used an 8-2 run to close within three, 14-11 on a Phillips layup off an inbound pass. OC scored the last three at the free throw line for the 17-11 score.

The teams went back-and-forth in the second quarter. The Rattlers cut the deficit to two points on an Elliott jumper at 7:16 for the 22-20 score, but OC tallied seven of the next eight to stretch the lead to eight, 29-21 and led 36-26 at halftime. Elliott had seven points and four rebounds to lead the team, while Huggins and Phillips each had five points.

The Eagles maintained the lead throughout the second half, stretching it out to as many as 21 with the final buzzer, 71-50.

St. Mary's returns home after two weeks on the road, hosting Angelo State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and UT Permian Basin on Saturday at 1 p.m.
