RICHARDSON, Texas -- St. Mary's
Ariel Cardozo helped anchor the defense that only surrendered one goal during last week's trip to Colorado and lifted the Rattlers to a win against No. 25 Colorado State-Pueblo, helping earn him Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Paraguay native and the StMU defense limited the Thunderwolves to five shots in the match, including two that landed on frame. Cardozo also provided the offense in the win, scoring a brace in the span of 68 seconds late in the second half. He first headed in a corner kick with just 6:44 remaining in the match to tie the score at 1-1, then buried the game-winner off of a rebound in the 85th minute. The Rattlers' also held UC-Colorado Springs scoreless in a 0-0 draw to close out the road trip.
This is the first LSC weekly award for Cardozo, but the second for the Rattlers in two weeks of action as
Bradley Greene was named after the team's draw at #17 West Texas A&M.
St. Mary's plays at UT Tyler on Wednesday before hosting Texas A&M San Antonio in the home opener on Saturday at 5 p.m.
