Late Goals Lift Women’s Soccer Past Missouri Western State

SAN ANTONIO – Tied at 1-1 six minutes into the game, the St. Mary's Women's Soccer Team scored back-to-back goals in the final 10 minutes for the 3-1 win over Missouri Western State on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Eliza Merrion (Park City, Utah) put the Rattlers (2-0) on the scoreboard first, as she took a feed from senior Juni Ejere (Weatherford, Texas) just one minute into the game. The Griffons evened the score five minutes later on a Jaden Skinner score.

The teams battled back-and-forth until the 79:30 mark when senior Kylie Von Holle (Midland, Texas) headed in her first goal of the season on a pass by freshman Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas).

Paniagua added her own score 7:30 later when she took the rebound off a blocked shot by freshman Sydney Varela (El Paso, Texas) and found the back of the net.

Sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Difronzo (Bari, Italy) made one save in the first half as the Rattlers defense kept the Griffons from having any shots on goal in the second stanza.

The Rattlers remain at the friendly confines of Sigma Beta Chi Field, hosting Felician on Friday at 7 p.m. The team then heads to Canyon for a neutral battle against Fort Lewis on Sunday at 11 a.m.
