SAN ANTONIO – On Senior Day, it was a senior who shined the brightest for the St. Mary's Baseball Team in a 3-1 victory over UT Tyler.

Adrian Gonzales (Pasadena, Texas) pitched eight solid innings, allowing one unearned run, walking two and striking out two on 115 pitches. Fellow senior
Connor Schmidt (Devine, Texas) earned his third save of the season, retiring the side in order in the ninth inning.

Dylan Bells (Regina, Saskatchewan),
Anthony Chavez (El Paso, Texas) and
Collin Storms (Lewisville, Texas) were honored for their contributions to the program.

The Rattlers (20-26, 18-26 Lone Star Conference) scored three runs on six hits, while the Patriots (26-18) scored one run on three hits. All six hits were by different player for the Rattlers, while San Antonio natives Jake Elizondo and
Ryan McGowen each had an RBI.

Senior
Brian Juarez (Corpus Christi, Texas) reached on an error by the second baseman to lead off the second, advanced to second and third on consecutive groundouts and scored on a single up the middle by McGowen to knot the score at 1-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, UT Tyler's starting pitcher, Nick Niebur hit three consecutive batters in freshman
Tyler Pauly (Fisher, Texas), McGowen and senior
Jake Mares (Fort Worth, Texas) to load the bases. Elizondo singled up the middle and the centerfielder bobbled the ball, allowing the second run to score for the 3-1 advantage.

Neither team was able to plate another run as the game lasted just 2:11.

St. Mary's finishes the 2022 regular season at UAFS beginning on Friday at 1 p.m. The Rattlers currently hold the eighth spot in the Lone Star Conference standings with one week remaining. The top eight advance to the league tournament.
