FRISCO, Texas – The St. Mary's Men's Basketball team fought back from a 16-point deficit to take a two-point lead with 3:42 remaining, but couldn't sustain in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, falling 70-64 to Texas A&M Kingsville at the Comerica Center.

The appearance was the first for the Rattlers (12-13) in the tournament and the Javelinas (17-9) completed the three-game season sweep over StMU and have now won seven-straight in the series.

Kobe Magee (San Antonio) drilled a triple, but Kingsville answered and two possessions later converted on a four-point play that took the wind out of the sails for the Rattlers.

Sophomore forward
Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) tied for game-high honors with 19 points, while junior guard
Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) added 10 and junior
Josh Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind.) grabbed a career- and game-high 10 rebounds.

The seven players for the Rattlers who saw action in more than 15 minutes all scored at least four points and grabbed one rebound and six of the seven dished out at least one assist.

St. Mary's shot 41.5 percent from the field, but just 27 percent from the arc. The team missed only two free throws on the night, connecting at an 87.5 clip. Both Caron and junior
Emmanuel Ewuzie (San Antonio) were 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER & TEAM NOTES
- Josh Brewer recorded a career-high 10 rebounds, bettering his StMU season high of seven and his career-high of eight from when he was at Miami (OH) in 2019. He becomes the fourth different Rattler this season to grab 10 or more boards in a game, joining Caron, senior Mamady Djikine and Emmanuel Ewuzie.
- The Rattlers played their first-ever LSC Championship game on Thursday, dropping to 0-1.
- The Rattlers were 9-4 in games in which they outrebounded their opponent. But despite a 32-29 edge Thursday, St. Mary's couldn't pull off the win.
- With 19 points, Tyler Caron surpassed the 400-point mark for his career, finishing the game with 404.
- Kobe Magee ends his career with 132 three-pointers, while senior Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) finishes right behind him with 129. The pair rank fifth and sixth, respectively, on the Rattlers career charts. Jordan also concludes his stellar career tied for second with 311 free throws made, knotting Ken Sampson (1960-64)
