SAN ANTONIO – In the Lone Star Conference opener for the St. Mary's Men's Tennis team, the Rattlers defeated UAFS, 5-2, on Thursday afternoon.

The Rattlers (12-2, 1-0 Lone Star) didn't let the chaos of Oyster Bake set-up distract them from the task at hand, winning their fifth-straight match at home and starting the league season off strong.

Sophomore
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) and senior
Pablo Munoz Baroja (San Sebastian, Spain) won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 team of
Niklas Knoerr (Tübingen, Germany) and
Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) clinched the point with a 6-2 victory.

Freshman
Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) dropped only one game at No. 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore
Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Faryniarz clinched the victory for the Rattlers with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at #2 singles and Nguyen scored the fifth point with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 1.

The Rattlers host #34 Cameron on Friday at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
