DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The St. Mary's Women's Tennis Team battled hard at Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, but couldn't quite claim victory despite almost three-and-a-half hours of fight, falling 4-3 for the team's first loss of the season.

The Rattlers (7-1) played for over four-and-a-half hours on Tuesday and had another tough fight on their hands against the Eagles (9-5) on Wednesday.Â

St. Mary's took the doubles point as senior
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) and freshman
Bailey Godwin (San Antonio) won 6-3 at No. 2 and senior
Marina Vigil (Gijon, Spain) and junior
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) won 6-4 at No. 3.

The Eagles won the next three points, as they won at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 before Vigil pulled off the straight sets victory at #2 singles, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).Â

Sophomore
Elena Munoz (Corregidora, Queretaro, Mexico) fought through a three-set match, winning sets one and three by the 6-4 score and dropping set two, 6-2.

The deciding set was at #3 where Thane and Jessica Wira Hadipoe battled. Hadipoe got a late break of serve to win the first set 7-5 and then pulled off the victory with a 7-4 tiebreak win in set two.

The road trip continues with a match against Nova Southeastern at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 17 and concludes on Saturday, March 19 with a contest against Florida Southern.
