Softball Shuts Out SNU in Winter Invite Finale

CONROE, Texas – The St. Mary's Softball team ended the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational on a high note, shutting out Southern Nazarene, 3-0, on Monday morning.
 
The Rattlers are now 3-2 on the young season with both losses coming to teams either ranked or receiving votes in the NFCA Coaches Poll.
 
On Monday, StMU scored three runs on four hits and held SNU from crossing home after they put together six base knocks.
 
Senior Victoria Aldridge (Elgin, Texas) had both a base hit and an RBI, while freshman Lauren Ramos (Marion, Texas) plated Rebekah Hubacek (Bryan, Texas) after reaching via a throwing error for an RBI. 
 
Freshman Kaylynne Ruiz (Eagle Pass, Texas), senior Amber Gonzales (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Ericka Gomez (Stafford, Texas) all added a hit.
 
Freshman Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) improved to 1-2 after throwing five innings, where she struck out two and surrendered five hits with no walks. Junior Catalina Cavazos (Houston) earned the team's first save of 2002, pitching the final two frames with one walk, two strikeouts and two hits.
 
The Rattlers head to the Javelina Invitational in Portland, Texas beginning on Friday. They are scheduled to play five games, starting with Hillsdale at 2 p.m.
