Scoring Drought Hurts Men's Basketball

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Men's Basketball team couldn't recover from a 15-2 scoring run midway through the second half by the visiting Angelo State Rams, as they fell 88-68 on Monday evening.

The Rattlers (10-9, 7-3 Lone Star Conference) led by one, 37-36 at halftime, but the Rams (15-7, 6-5 LSC) came out on fire in the second half, shooting 65.5 percent from the floor to snap a five-game home winning streak for the Gold & Blue.

Junior Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland), who was earlier in the day named the Lone Star Defensive Player of the Week, led the team with 16 points. He also tied senior Kobe Magee (San Antonio) for game-high honors with four steals and was tied for second on the club with four rebounds. Magee added 12 points and a team-high four assists, while senior Josh Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind.) came off the bench to score 10 and tie for team-high honors with Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) as each grabbed five boards.

The Rams had six score in double figures, led by Tyrell Carroll with 17. Lathaniel Bastian led the game with seven rebounds.

After playing six games in 10 days, the Rattlers now get two full days off from competition before returning to Bill Greehey Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tilt against Oklahoma Christian.
