DENVER, Colo. – Regis tried to come back in both games, but the St. Mary's Softball team held on, winning both games of a doubleheader in the South Central Regional Crossover event on Sunday, 12-8 and 5-4.

The two wins improve the Rattlers to 13-3 on the season, while Regis drops to 5-8. St. Mary's went 3-1 in the clash between the two leagues in the South Central Region – the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the Lone Star Conference.

St. Mary's will finally play its first home game of the year on Friday when they host rival St. Edward's for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

GAME ONE RECAP
St. Mary's jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the game, and then held on as Regis attempted the comeback, winning 12-8. A total of 19 players saw action for the Rattlers, as they made substitutions at ever position except catcher during the game.

Seniors
Jayme Johns (Elgin, Texas) and
Tiffany Licon (Austin, Texas) were both 2-for-2 at the plate. Johns also drove in two runs and scored once, while Licon scored twice and tallied an RBI.Â

Freshman Mine'e Padilla (San Antonio) hit her first collegiate career, blasting a two-run shot to centerfield in the second as the team scored 12 runs on 12 hits and were aided by six Regis errors.

The Rangers scored eight runs on 10 hits with a pair of Rattler miscues. Freshman
Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) moved to 3-2 with the win. She allowed two runs on three hits with four strikeouts in four innings. Both sophomore
Sara Robertson (Lorena, Texas) and freshman
Savannah Youngblood (Kingwood, Texas) worked over an inning in relief.

GAME TWO RECAP
The Rattlers led 5-0 before Regis scored one in the bottom of the third and three in the seventh to make it a close game. Freshman
Jamison Holder (Magnolia, Texas) ended the game in thrilling fashion, as she threw out a Ranger attempting to steal third base with two outs. Holder gunned down two would-be base stealers in the final two frames.

The five Rattlers runs came on six hits, with two off the bat of freshman
Lauryn Ramos (Marion, Texas), while Regis scored four runs on eight hits. Senior
Amber Gonzales (Austin) hit a two-run home run over the left centerfield wall for two of the team's four RBI in the nightcap.

Junior
Catalina Cavazos (Houston) remained undefeated on the season, moving to 6-0 with the win. She was in the circle for 6.2 innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. Youngblood closed out the contest for her second save of the year. She walked one and was pitching to her second batter when Holder ended the game with her defense.
