Fourth Quarter Push Not Enough for Women's Basketball

COMMERCE, Texas – The St. Mary's Women's Basketball team made a strong push in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough against seventh-ranked Texas A&M Commerce on Saturday and the Rattlers dropped a 78-52 decision.

Sophomore forward Michaela Kucera (Schwäbisch Hall, Germany) led the team in scoring for the first time this season with a career-high 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Senior forward Hannah Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) narrowly missed another double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds and fellow senior Christina Baker (Mansfield, Texas) ended in double figures for the second time this season with 10.

Wilson also led the game with four blocked shots, while sophomore Bella Hughes (Argyle, Texas) and senior guard Mya Culiver (Rockwall, Texas) each had three steals. Freshman Ariana Rosado (Round Rock, Texas) led with four assists.

The Rattlers (2-24, 1-14 Lone Star Conference) outscored the Lions (22-2, 10-2 Lone Star) 19-to-10 in the fourth quarter, led by Baker's eight points and five rebounds.

No. 7 Commerce was led by Dyani Robinson and Chania Wright with 14 points each and three different players grabbed five rebounds each.

St. Mary's has two games remaining in the 2021-22 season, hosting West Texas A&M on Monday at 3:30 p.m. and closing out the year on Thursday for Senior Day at 5:30 against St. Edward's in a non-conference contest.
