PORTLAND, Texas – On Saturday, it was a pair of offensive explosions that led to a pair of wins, but on Sunday, it was pitching and defense that lifted the St. Mary's Softball team to a pair of victories at the Javelina Invitational.
Â
The Rattlers (8-2) won their sixth and seventh straight contests to post a perfect 5-0 record at the tournament, defeating Henderson State, 3-1 and Texas A&M International, 2-1.Â

TAMIU RECAP
In a non-conference game against a Lone Star Conference foe, the Rattlers fought through Dust Devil base runners in the first four innings and came back from a solo home run in the sixth, scoring a pair in the top of the seventh inning for the 2-1 victory.
Â
Junior
Catalina Cavazos (Houston) got the win in the circle, pitching the final two innings after freshman
Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) allowed no runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts through five. Abrego also went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Â
With two outs in the seventh – and down to their final out – senior
Victoria Aldridge (Elgin, Texas) doubled to left. Senior
Jayme Johns (Elgin) singled up the middle to drive in Aldridge and moved to second on the throw home. After a pitching change for the Dust Devils, Johns scampered to third on a wild pitch. Freshman
Lauryn Ramos (Marion, Texas) walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Mageors walked to load the bases, and Christian walked to drive in the winning run.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, Cavazos struck out all three batters she faced, one looking and two swinging for the win.
