SAN ANTONIO – Despite a career-high 18 points by junior
Jalon Johnson, the St. Mary's Men's Basketball dropped a 67-61 contest to Texas A&M Kingsville on Friday evening.

Johnson led all players with 18 points, more than doubling his previous high of eight from three different games. He also led the team with five assists – one off his career-high of six from the season opener – and tied for the game lead with six rebounds, tying his career high.

Both seniors
Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) and
Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) added nine points, while senior
Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) tied for the lead with six rebounds.

Jake Majors scored 13 to lead the Javelinas (8-5, 2-3 LSC), while Will Chayer and Kavon Booker each tied for game-high honors with six rebounds. C.J. Smith tied for the lead with five assists and Marcus Jones-Green collected four steals.

The teams went back-and-forth throughout the first half, but a 12-point run by TAMUK gave them the 33-29 lead at halftime and the Rattlers could never get the lead back.

St. Mary's scored 36 points in the paint and the starting five scored 47 of the team's 61 points on the night.

The Rattlers host Texas A&M International on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Dustdevils dropped an 88-72 decision at St. Edward's earlier on Friday.
