Cardozo and Wilson Earn Second-Team All-American by USC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time since the 1997 season, the St. Mary's Men's Soccer Team has two All-Americans in the same season as both seniors Ariel Cardozo and Lewis Wilson were named to the United Soccer Coaches Second-Team.

The pair of seniors anchored a strong back line for the Rattlers, which advanced to the Third-Round of the NCAA Championship.

Cardozo (Ciudad de Este, Paraguay) was honored by the Lone Star Conference as the Newcomer of the Year after the team notched 13 shutouts. He also scored a pair of game winners with his three goals.

Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland) earned both Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors by the league, as well as a First-Team All-American nod by D2CCA. In addition to his defensive prowess, the fifth-year senior scored four goals to tie for the team lead.

In 1997, both Que Willis and Ahn Tran were named to the All-American squad after the team went 17-3 and won the Heart of Texas Conference title. This season, Midwestern State's Mere Escobar was the only other selection from the Lone Star Conference to the three teams, earning Third-Team honors.

This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
