KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time since the 1997 season, the St. Mary's Men's Soccer Team has two All-Americans in the same season as both seniors
Ariel Cardozo and
Lewis Wilson were named to the United Soccer Coaches Second-Team.
Â
The pair of seniors anchored a strong back line for the Rattlers, which advanced to the Third-Round of the NCAA Championship.Â
Â
Cardozo (Ciudad de Este, Paraguay) was honored by the Lone Star Conference as the Newcomer of the Year after the team notched 13 shutouts. He also scored a pair of game winners with his three goals.
Â
Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland) earned both Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors by the league, as well as a First-Team All-American nod by D2CCA. In addition to his defensive prowess, the fifth-year senior scored four goals to tie for the team lead.
Â
In 1997, both Que Willis and Ahn Tran were named to the All-American squad after the team went 17-3 and won the Heart of Texas Conference title. This season, Midwestern State's Mere Escobar was the only other selection from the Lone Star Conference to the three teams, earning Third-Team honors.
Â
This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
