Clifford Wins #50 as Men's Soccer Shuts Down DBU

SAN ANTONIO – St. Mary's Men's Soccer Coach Johnny Clifford led the Rattlers to a 2-0 victory against DBU on Wednesday night, winning the 50th game of his career in just his 79th outing.

The Rattlers (6-0-4, 2-0 Lone Star Conference) posted their eighth-consecutive clean sheet and stretched the streak to 735 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.

Freshman Calum Murdoch (Christchurch, New Zealand) scored the first goal in the 55th minute, taking a feed from sophomore defender Andrick Ferrer (San Antonio) just inside the goal box and found the lower left-hand corner of the net.

In the 83rd minute, Murdoch headed a pass to Ferrer, who found a streaking Cian Foley (Wexford, Ireland) on the far side of the goal and he made a circus kick for the 2-0 total.

Junior goalkeeper Andre Schlaefli (Katy, Texas) made three saves for the third-straight game, shutting out DBU (2-4-4, 1-1) for the second time this season. Schlaefli now has 23 straight saves without allowing a goal.

The Rattlers take their 2-0 conference record on the road to UT Permian Basin, facing the Falcons for the second time in four games. The two teams square off on Saturday at 3 p.m.
