Volleyball Sweeps Another Opponent at Home

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Volleyball Team rebounded from Wednesday night's setback, sweeping Oklahoma Christian on Friday evening, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 to remain in sole possession of fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings.

The Rattlers (13-10, 9-3 LSC) used a balanced attack to keep the Eagles (13-11, 4-7 LSC) off kilter all night. Both outside hitters Brianna Morris-Worth (Yukon, Okla.) and Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) led the match with 10 kills and six others posted at least one kill.

Freshman libero Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) had one of the best matches of her young career, tying her career-high with 25 digs. It is the fifth time she's had 20 or more in a match. Sophomore defensive specialist Leah Cruz (Laredo, Texas) chipped in a season-high 10 digs as the Rattlers amassed 65.

StMU led from wire-to-wire in both the second and third sets, building leads early with their serves. In the second stanza, the Rattlers had three aces in the first 11 points to build an 11-3 edge and they went on to win 25-18.

In the third set, sophomore setter Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas) served a pair of aces to give StMU a 5-1 lead and they won 25-19. In the first set, there were two ties and two lead changes before the Rattlers took over and won 25-19.

Senior Sadie Hough (Cleburne, Texas) and freshman Dallasstar Johnson (San Antonio) each had three blocks, with Hough slamming down two solo blocks, while Johnson had one solo stop and two assists. Hough also collected eight kills, while Johnson was right behind her with seven.

For the fifth time this season, the Rattlers defense held an opponent under a .100 hitting percentage as the Eagles hit just .061.

St. Mary's wraps up a long week on Saturday at 2 p.m. when UAFS comes to town for Senior Day. Both Hough and graduate student Liz Ugbaja (Houston) will be honored prior to first serve. The Lions lost in five sets at St. Edward's on Friday evening.
