RICHARDSON, Texas -- For the second time this season, St. Mary's sophomore defender
Andrick Ferrer has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week. It is the fifth-straight week a Rattlers defender has won the award and StMU has won the award all six weeks it has competed in 2022.
Ferrer continued his solid second campaign with the Rattlers, helping lead the back line to a shutout win over DBU on Wednesday for the team's eighth consecutive clean sheet. The San Antonio native assisted on both goals in the 2-0 victory, then added a goal of his own in the 4-1 win at UT Permian Basin on Saturday. Ferrer scored the team's third goal of the night in the 72nd minute, part of a flurry of three goals in under five minutes for StMU. Ferrer and the Rattler defense held the Falcons without a shot on goal during open play, as UTPB managed their lone goal from a penalty kick.
Ferrer is tied for the team lead with seven points this season as a total of 19 different players have one or more. His three assists are tied for second-most amongst Rattlers, while his two goals are also tied for second on the club.
