DALLAS, Texas – Despite outscoring DBU by three in the second half, the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team was unable to overcome a first-half deficit, falling 82-71 in Dallas on Thursday evening.
Senior guard
Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) came off the bench to lead all scorers with 19 as he tied his career high with five three-pointers. Fellow senior
Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) chipped in a season-high 16 points and tied for the game-high lead with six rebounds along with sophomore forward
Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas). Junior
Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) added 11 points.
Senior guard
Kobe Magee (San Antonio) led the team with five assists, while Leonard had three steals and Caron blocked two of the team's three shots on the night.
After shooting just 39.3 percent in the first half, the Rattlers (3-7, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) rebounded to connect on 52.9 percent in the second stanza and they were a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line for the game.
The Rattlers also out-rebounded the Patriots (7-6, 1-1 Lone Star), 32-to-29, winning the battle of the boards for the fifth time in 10 games this year.
DBU had a quartet score in double figures, led by Austin Garner off the bench with 15.
St. Mary's remains in north Texas for a match up against Midwestern State on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Mustangs defeated St. Edward's 60-50 earlier on Thursday.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYER & TEAM NOTES
- Caleb Jordan came off the bench to lead all scorers with a season-high tying 19 points. He also tied his career-high with five three-pointers.
- The Rattlers were a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. It is the third-straight game, and the seventh time this season the team has shot 72 percent or better at the charity stripe.
- With his season-high 16 points, Mamady Djikine now has over 250 points in his time with the Rattlers. He entered the game with 248 and now has 264.
- The Rattlers added nine more steals to their season total. It is the seventh time in 10 games this season the club has swiped eight or more in a contest.
- Caleb Jordan becomes the fifth different Rattler to lead the team in scoring twice this season. Six members of the team have led or tied for the team lead at least once in 2021-22.
