TAKING THE PITCH
The St. Mary's Rattlers return to the friendly confines of Sigma Beta Chi Field on Thursday afternoon to play their home opener against No. 5 Palm Beach Atlantic. The Rattlers went 1-1 on their road trip out west, taking down MSU-Denver in OT and dropping to No. 8 School of Mines in a two-game slate.
Now, the Rattlers are back with an upset in mind as they welcome the Sailfish to town. Thursday will be the first time that these two schools have met on the pitch, pitting two tenacious offenses against one another. Both teams have physicality and speed on their side and are looking for a statement victory early in the season. It will be a must-see home opener as the Rattlers prepare for their five-game homestand.
RATTLER STORYLINES
- Tony Andoyan was named a LSC Honorable Mention when the Player of the Week Award was unveiled on Tuesday. The Senior collected three points in the opening weekend of the season, scoring a goal against the Roadrunners and tallying an assist against the Orediggers.
- The Rattlers have either won or tied their home opener each year since 2017.
- StMU has not dropped back-to-back contests since the very end of the 2018 season.
SCOUTING #5 PALM BEACH ATLANTIC
- The Sailfish are 2-0 after knocking Flagler and Mississippi College by 4-1 margins.
- PBA vaulted up the rankings after their offensive explosion in week one. The 'Fish went from No.13 to No. 5 after their first two games and have now cracked the top ten in five of the last six seasons.
- Palm Beach Atlantic was 15-3-3 in their last full championship season and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Wingate, 3-1.
