TAKING THE PITCH
The St. Mary's Rattlers welcome their sister school, Our Lady of the Lake, to Sigma Beta Chi Field for Community Night on Thursday. The Rattlers (2-2) are coming off of a win over South Dakota Mines in convincing fashion, 3-1.
The Rattlers and Saints will be meeting for the fourth time in men's soccer history. StMU enjoys a 2-1 series lead after a 1-0 shutout victory in February during the COVID-19 affected 2020 season. Alonso Rodriguez found the back of the net in the 83rd minute on a chilly San Antonio night to lift the Rattlers over their rivals from down the road.
Now, St. Mary's looks to build some early season momentum as this five-game home stand marches on. The Rattlers are 1-1 through two games and look to get above .500 once again with a win on Thursday night.
RATTLER STORYLINES
- Erwin Regules scored twice in the victory over Mines on Saturday afternoon. Regules now has three goals on the season, including two game-winners in his first season as a Rattler. Regules earned an LSC Honorable Mention in this week's POTW awards.
- Keeper Andre Schlaefli has come on strong in his last two starts, holding #5 PBA to just a lone goal and following it up with another solid performance against Mines in a winning effort.
- St. Mary's is 2-1 against OLLU, shutting out the Saints in both victories.
SCOUTING OUR LADY OF THE LAKE
- The Saints are 1-2 this season after winning their opener, but dropping their last two games.
- After blanking Schreiner, 4-0, the Saints haven't score since the 51st minute of their opener. They've been shut out by scores of 4-0 and 3-0 in their last two contests.
- Juan Martin Chica is their leading scoring threat in 2021, finding the back of the net twice in the opener.
