TAKING THE PITCH
The St. Mary's Rattlers host the Hardrockers of South Dakota Mines on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. StMU and Mines will do battle on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. There will be a moment of silence to honor those that we lost that day.
The Rattlers are coming off of a hard-fought loss to No. Palm Beach Atlantic. Despite the defensive struggle, the Sailfish were able to sneak out of San Antonio with a 1-0 victory. PBA's Huerman sent the lone goal of the game into the back of the net off of a free kick from just outside the box in the 57th minute.
Now, St. Mary's turns their attention to the Hardrockers of South Dakota Mines. Mines comes into Saturday's contest with a 1-1-1 record. Mines played St. Cloud twice to open their season at home, winning the first and drawing the second match. Mines also played on Thursday night in Laredo, Texas, where they lost to TAMIU. The 'Rockers fell behind early, but mounted a valiant comeback, ultimately falling by a 3-2 final score.
RATTLER STORYLINES
- After giving a top five team all that they could handle on Thursday night, the Rattlers are eager to return to the win column on this five-game homestand.
- Keeper Andre Schlaefli was excellent against the Sailfish, stopping six of seven balls that were put on frame.
- The Rattlers have Shots on Goal Percentage of .353 as they head into their fourth game of the season.
SCOUTING SOUTH DAKOTA MINES
- The Hardrockers have scored six goals in their first three games, while also allowing six goals to their opponents. Three of those came to the DustDevils on Thursday night.
- Mines is giving up an average of 17 shots at the beginning of the season.
- Mines has struggled to earn corner kicks in the early going, totaling just nine through three games.
