Men's Tennis Adds Two From Texas
SAN ANTONIO – St. Mary's University Tennis Coach
Bill Macom has announced the addition of two Texas natives for the 2021-22 season.
Chad Nguyen will join the Rattlers from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as he will work on his master's in business administration. Nguyen, who prepped at A&M-Consolidated in College Station, Texas, finished the 2021 season with the Islanders a perfect 5-0 in matches and a perfect 10-0 in sets played. He played both No. 5 and 6 singles and was 10-2 at No. 3 doubles.
"Chad has made such a great impact with the Islanders over the past four years," Islanders Head Coach Steve Moore said. "He was absolutely loved by this Islanders team and you will never find a guy with better character and values."
"I was able to see Chad play locally," Macom said. "He will add a lot of positive energy to our program. He will have the opportunity to step in and be a leader with so many new additions to the team this fall."
Mario Urdaneta, a recent graduate of Westside High School in Houston, Texas, placed third at the Region 3 UIL Championships. He intends to study finance with the Rattlers and is described as someone who is always working to improve his game by both of his coaches.
"He has been with me for five years," said AJ James, director of Team AJ Tennis Academy in Katy, Texas. "And he has some of the best hands at our academy. He is a team player, strong student, great leader and an outstanding person."
"I have known Mario for the last 6 years," stated Javier Bacaicoa, a former collegiate player and current owner of iPlay Tennis Academy. "As a tennis player he is one of the hardest working kids I have coached. He will be an exceptional teammate as he is not only hard working but also a very responsible guy."Â
"Mario has an excellent skill set," Macom added. "It is always great to add a lefty to the squad. I have known his coach, AJ for many years and he has always developed quality players who are magnificent people, so I am looking forward to working with Mario."
