FORT SMITH, Arkansas - The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team bounced back after a 5-2 loss to Angelo State last time out to shutout Arkansas Fort Smith, earning their fourth Lone Star Conference victory over the Lions. Nine of the Rattlers' 12 wins on the season have been shutouts.
Marina Vigil and
Alice Thane started things in doubles action as the duo won at the No. 2 line, 6-3. At the No. 3 line,
Ashley Penshorn and
Abigail Csengery clinched the doubles point for St. Mary's, winning 6-3 over their UAFS opponents.
Maria Garcia and
Gabi Ioannou wrapped up doubles play with a 6-4 victory at No. 1.
Vigil took the first singles point, winning 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 line. Garcia picked up her seventh straight victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 to give the Rattlers a 3-0 lead.
Gabi Ioannou cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 win, her 11th victory at the No. 4 line. At the No. 1 line, Penshorn earned her 14th win of the season with a 6-4, 7-5 win. Munoz and Csengery completed the shutout for St. Mary's as Munoz won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Csengery, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Rattlers as they will face Cameron tomorrow. The match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
