FORT SMITH, Arkansas - The St. Mary's Men's Tennis team picked up a Lone Star Conference victory on Friday as they took down the Arkansas Fort Smith, 5-2. The Rattlers have won three of their last four matches and move to 9-3 overall on the season and 2-1 in league play.
With a doubles win from
Leon Hein and
Nicolas Llosa at the No. 3 line,
Alex Gee and
Sebastian Azcui clinched the doubles point for the Rattlers with a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 line.
Jeremiah Sanchez and
James Finnigan dropped a close match at No. 1 doubles, losing 7-6.
Sanchez remains unbeaten at the No. 1 singles line as the graduate student picked up a 7-6, 6-1 victory to put St. Mary's up 2-0 against the Lions. Sanchez is now 11-0 on the season and ranked No. 16 in the latest singles rankings.
Ryan Koth added another win for the Rattlers at the No. 3 line as the freshman outlasted his opponent in three sets, winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Finnigan clinched a Rattler victory at the No. 5 line, winning, 6-4, 6-1, putting St. Mary's up 4-1. Hein added a fifth win for St. Mary's at No. 6 singles, winning 6-0, 6-2 and the Lions would take the final match of the day at No. 4 singles.
The Rattlers will return to the court tomorrow as they take on the Cameron Aggies at 10:30 a.m. in Lawton, Oklahoma.
