De la Garza Tabbed Lone Star Pitcher of the Week
DALLAS – A near perfect outing on Saturday earned Zach De la Garza the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, announced the league office.
The left-handed senior from San Antonio surrendered just one hit in a nine-inning complete game shutout for St. Mary's. De la Garza threw 97 pitches, striking out seven with no walks and retired the final 22 batters he faced in the 7-0 victory. Of his 97 pitches, 72 were for strikes and the lone hit he allowed was a single.
It is the first shutout for the Rattlers since the 2020 season opener – a game in which De la Garza also pitched six innings.
This is De la Garza's second weekly honor, though it's his first in the Lone Star Conference. It is also the second pitcher of the week award for the Rattlers this season as
Connor Schmidt earned the honor on Feb. 23.
The Rattlers are 9-6 overall and 7-5 in Lone Star Conference play and head to Kingsville for a three-game series against the Javelinas beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
