LUBBOCK – Despite a career-high 27 points from senior forward
Hannah Wilson, the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team was unable to overcome the balanced attack of top-ranked Lubbock Christian in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, ending its season with a 76-52 loss.
Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) posted her eighth-consecutive double-double with the 27 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The 27 are the most points given up by the Lady Chaps (16-0) to a single player this season and is more than two opponent teams scored. Fellow senior
Mya Culiver (Rockwall, Texas) added 10 points and a team-high four assists, while Wilson recorded a season-best three steals for the Rattlers (6-9).
It was only the fifth time the Lady Chaps allowed an opponent to top 50 points in a game this season, and the Rattlers scored 52 twice in the three times the teams faced each other. Lubbock Christian led almost wire to wire, taking advantage of Rattler miscues as they scored 26 points off the 18 StMU turnovers.
St. Mary's shot 37.4 percent for the game and 18.2 percent from beyond the arc (2-for-11). The Rattlers were once again solid from the free throw line making 10 of 12.
Lubbock Christian will now host the remainder of the Lone Star Conference Tournament, where the top seeds all advanced. LCU faces Cameron and in the other semifinal, Texas A&M Commerce and West Texas A&M will play.
