ODESSA, Texas – A late goal from
Liam Morrison was the difference for the St. Mary's Men's Soccer team as the Rattlers took down UT Permian Basin, 1-0 in the first Lone Star Conference match of the season.
Morrison chose a great time to score the first goal of his career as the Rattlers had five chances throughout the game but could not get one past the Falcon keeper. In the 86th minute, Morrison was credited with the game-winner as scored off a UT Permian Basin deflection.
Deni Cresto had a chance early in the match, putting a shot on frame but the Falcon keeper made a save on the shot to keep it 0-0.
Early in the second half,
Cian Foley had an opportunity but came up empty. The UT Permian Basin keeper denied two more shots, one from Cresto and the other from
Tony Andoyan before surrendering the game-winner to Morrison.
St. Mary's outshot the Falcons, 15-5. UT Permian Basin put just two shots on frame was never able to beat the St. Mary's defense or keeper,
Raul Guillamon-Bejar, earning him his first clean sheet win in a Rattlers uniform.
The Rattlers will return to the pitch next Tuesday, March 9, as they host West Texas A&M University at Sigma Beta Chi Field. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
