Schmidt Named NCBWA South Central Region Pitcher of Week
SAN ANTONIO – One day after earning his first-ever Pitcher of the Week award, St. Mary's junior
Connor Schmidt earned the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Central Region Pitcher of the Week honors.
Schmidt, a native of Devine, Texas, improved to 3-1 on the season after helping lead the Rattlers to a 7-2 victory over Lubbock Christian. He threw seven innings and struck out a season-high tying six batters, while allowing only three hits and one earned run. He also held the Chaps to a .130 batting average and 56 of his season-high 91 pitches were strikes.
It is the first regional weekly honor for St. Mary's since
Donnie Perez was named the South Central Hitter of the Week on Feb. 28, 2018 and Schmidt earns the 22nd honor for the Rattlers.
Schmidt and the other regional honorees will now be forwarded to the national ballot for a vote for national player of the week.
St. Mary's baseball will begin at three game series at Angelo State on Friday and Schmidt is slated to start game one, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.
