Schmidt Earns LSC Pitcher of the Week
After pitching a gem in the first game on Sunday, St. Mary's RHP
Connor Schmidt earned his first-ever Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Schmidt, a junior from Devine, Texas tied his season-high with six strikeouts in a 7-2 victory over Lubbock Christian to help set the tone for the entire weekend's sweep. Schmidt gave up only three hits and an earned run in seven innings of work and held the Chaps to a .130 batting average. He is now 3-1 on the year. Through the first five innings, Schmidt surrendered just one hit and threw a season-high 91 pitches with 56 going for strikes.
Schmidt has already matched his win total from 2019 where he was 3-2 in 11 appearances. In the shortened 2020 season, Schmidt was 0-1 with two saves in eight appearances.
The Rattlers travel to San Angelo for a three-game series at Angelo State beginning on Friday at 6:30 with a doubleheaders slated for Saturday to start at 2 p.m.
