AUSTIN, Texas – In almost a rerun of Tuesday, the St. Mary's Volleyball team dropped a five-set match at St. Edward's on Wednesday, 25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 8-15 to even their record at 2-2.
After hitting .417 in the opening set, the Rattlers struggled to find the offensive rhythm again hitting under .150 the remaining four sets. The defense held St. Edward's (3-3, 3-3 Lone Star Conference) to a .178 hitting percentage, but the Hilltoppers topped .215 in three of the five sets.

Alissa Tolbert (San Antonio) managed to record her fourth consecutive double-double of the season with a team-leading 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior libero
Catherine Cruz (San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 19 digs, while freshman S
Aislan Lennon (Houston) tallied her second-straight double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs.

Julia Deais (San Antonio) led the team with five blocks, including three solo stops and she was one of four Rattlers with two service aces. The Rattlers had nine aces on the evening and were aced just three times in the five sets.
The first set was tied at every point from one through six until the Blue & Gold rattled off five straight with two kills by Ogle, to take the 10-6 lead. StMU scored six of the next nine points to stretch the lead to 16-9 and went on to win 25-16 after scoring the final four points of the set.
In the second set, the teams were tied at 7, 8 and 9 before the Rattlers scored three straight and forced a St. Edward's timeout. After a Hilltoppers point, the Rattlers scored seven of the next eight to push the lead to 19-11. SEU answered with nine of the next 11 points to close within one, 21-20. A Deais kill extended the lead back to two, but the Hilltoppers took their first lead of the set after scoring three consecutive. Back-to-back kills by Tolbert and Deais gave the lead back to the Blue & Gold and they won 25-23.
The Hilltoppers jumped out to the 6-1 lead in the third set, but the Rattlers battled back to knot the score at 8-8 behind a Deais ace and back-to-back blocks by freshmen
Josie Disponette (Wilmore, Kent.) and
Julia Aleman (San Antonio). The teams went back-and-forth, tied at 19-19 and 20-20 before SEU scored five of the final six for the 25-21 tally.
St. Edward's led wire-to-wire in the fourth set, winning 25-18. In the final stanza, SEU leapt out to the 5-1 advantage but the Rattlers fought back to tie the score at 8-8. The Rattlers did not score a point the rest of the way, falling 15-8.
St. Mary's hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville at Tuesday and Wednesday at 6 p.m.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYER & TEAM NOTES
- Freshman Isabella Dena (San Antonio) saw her first collegiate action, recording two digs in the fourth seth.
- Junior Julia Deais recorded a career-high three solo blocks and had five total blocks on the night.
- Junior OH Alissa Tolbert has tallied a double-double in each of the four matches this season, tallying 10 kills and 10 digs.
- Freshman S Aislan Lennon also notched her third double-double of the year with 24 assists and 12 digs, playing just three of the six rotations.
