TAKING THE PITCH
St. Mary's will make their third straight appearance in the Lone Star Conference Tournament when they host the fifth-seeded UT-Tyler Patriots. The Rattlers, who earned the four seed, defeated Texas A&M International, 1-0, in the final regular season game to secure their hosting bid. The Rattlers fought their way to a 12-6 record in 2021, accruing 15 points in LSC play.
UT-Tyler secured the fifth seed with a dramatic win over DBU last weekend, earning the full three points and vaulting the Patriots into their second-ever LSC Tournament. The Patriots are red hot offensively, scoring six goals in their last two contests. The Patriots shutout the Rattlers a week ago in Tyler to even the season series at one game apiece.
The Rattlers own the 3-2 series lead over the Patriots after both teams defended their home turf against one another this season. The Rattlers are 2-1 against UT-Tyler at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
RATTLER STORYLINES
- Alonso Rodriguez finished the regular season as the leading goal scorer for the Rattlers with seven. He totaled 15 points.
- The Rattlers accumulated 296 shots over the course of the season, the most of any team in the conference.
- St. Mary's held opponents to a goal average of 1.28 throughout the season, good for the second best mark in the conference.
SCOUTING UT-TYLER
- UT-Tyler fought their way into the postseason with back-to-back wins over StMU and DBU. The Patriots relied on a flurry of offense in their run down the stretch.
- UTT gave up 25 goals this season while scoring just 22. They were also outshot by their opponents, 220-175.
- Sergio Sola scored five goals and 11 total points for the Patriots, leading the way in both categories.
