COUNTDOWN TO TIPOFF
The St. Mary's Rattlers are on the road to begin their 2021-2022 campaign at the South Central Regional Crossover in Lubbock, Texas. The Rattlers will play a pair of games on Friday and Saturday against RMAC opponents. St. Mary's will look to rely on their veteran leaders like Tyler Caron, Kobe Magee, and Caleb Jordan to help propel the Rattlers towards a postseason run.Â
On Friday night, the Rattlers take on No. 5 Colorado School of Mines. The Rattlers and Orediggers have played just six games against each other all-time, with School of Mines claiming five of them. The Rattlers, however, did knock off Mines in their last contest, 85-84 OT, in Golden, Colorado. School of Mines made it to the Elite Eight in the 2020-2021 season and spent six weeks ranked #1 in the NABC last season before winning the West regional. Mines returns three key starters for the new campaign, including point guard Kobi Betts, shooting guard Ben Boone, and small forward and RMAC Player of the Year Brendan Sullivan. The Orediggers were picked to finish second in the RMAC.
On Saturday, St. Mary's will square off against the Regis Rangers. The Rangers are 4-1 all-time against St. Mary's and have won the last four games. The Rangers were 6-10 a season ago that was shortened by the pandemic. They finished 11th in the RMAC standings.
