On Tap: After 14 months away from the court, the St. Mary's Volleyball Team will open the 2021 spring season with a pair of home matches against Texas A&M International. The Rattlers open the year with four-straight home matches, as they will host Texas A&M-Kingsville the following week.
Scouting The Dust Devils: Texas A&M-International was picked 14th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll. New head coach Brittany Harry added 11 newcomers to her roster of 20 student-athletes. A season ago, the Dust Devils were 6-19 overall and 1-9 in Lone Star Conference play. Their lone victory came in the season finale against the Rattlers in a hard-fought five-set match.
Picked 11th: St. Mary's was chosen 11th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll by the league's coaches, media and sports information personnel. Angelo State was picked to repeat as Lone Star Champions, garnering 37 of 40 first-place nods. Texas A&M-Commerce, UAFS, West Texas A&M and St. Edward's round out the top five. Texas Woman's, UT-Permian Basin, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Lubbock Christian and DBU were picked sixth through 10th, respectively.
Lone Star Slate: The spring 2021 volleyball slate will feature a "bubble" format for 16 teams with four divisions consisting of four teams each on Tuesday-Wednesday playing dates. Â Each team has 12 divisional games over six weeks against the same opponent at the same site. Â Regular season competition will begin on Jan. 26 and will conclude on March 10 with the week of March 15-20 reserved for make-up contests.
Pair Named All-Academic: Both seniors
Catherine Cruz and
Lindsey Kaufman were recently named to the Lone Star Conference Fall 2021 All-Academic Team. Cruz is majoring in Political Science, while Kaufman is pursuing a degree in Forensic Science.
