SAN ANGELO, Texas – The St. Mary's Softball team dropped a doubleheader at #9 Angelo State on Friday, falling 4-0 and 6-3.
The Rattlers are now 11-16 overall and 3-3 in Lone Star Conference action, while the Rams improve to 16-6 on the year and 3-3 in league games.
Sophomore
Victoria Aldridge (Elgin, Texas) was 2-for-4 in the twinbill with a pair of walks and an RBI. Junior

Senior

Alex McLennan (Austin) each took a loss in the circle, starting games one and two, respectively. Each pitched 3.1 innings before giving way to senior
Julia Cruz (Asherton, Texas). The Rambelles hit just .063 against Cruz, who threw 5.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts and five walks on the day.
GAME ONE RECAP
Cruz came in and shut down the Angelo State offense, pitching the final 2.2 innings without giving up a hit. She walked three, but stranded all of them. Cruz came into the circle for
Staci Johns, who threw 3.1 innings. She gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Offensively, both Aldridge and Gonzales were 2-for-3 at the plate and Gonzales had a double – the only extra base hit of the game for the Rattlers.
The Rattlers had base runners in each of the four innings, getting seven hits and stranded multiple runners in both the third and fourth frames.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Rattlers scored three runs on four hits, while Angelo State scored six runs on seven hits and was aided by a StMU error.
Staci Johns led off the top of the second inning with a home run for the first run of the game. The Rambelles answered with a lead-off home run of their own in the bottom of the frame to knot the score at 1-1. ASU scored two runs each in the third and fourth.

Cassidy Brawley (Castroville, Texas) reached on a fielder's choice that erased Gonzales off the base paths. With two outs,
Jayme Johns singled to the first baseman and both Aldridge and junior
Abigale Carney (El Paso, Texas) drew walks for RBIs. The Rambelles added one run in the bottom of the sixth for the 6-3 win.
TEAM & INDIVIDUAL PLAYER NOTES
- Amber Gonzales has reached base in 10 consecutive games, while Victoria Aldridge has reached in her last nine contests.
- Staci Johns hit her second home run of the season and the seventh of her career in the first game.
- Gonzales doubled in the first game to give her eight on the year. Her total is tied for fourth in the Lone Star Conference this season. She now has 11 extra base knocks in 2020.
- St. Mary's has already hit 14 home runs in 2020, surpassing the team's total of 12 from 2019. The team has also hit more triples through the first 26 games of 2020 than the entire 2019 season with 10, compared to six.

The Rattlers remain on the road against ranked opponents, playing a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. against Angelo State and a doubleheader at #20 Lubbock Christian on Sunday. First pitch is also slated for 1 p.m.
