Men's Basketball Shooting Woes Lead To 69-53 Loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas — St. Mary's Men's Basketball struggled to find the back of the net when they needed it most on the road at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday, falling 69-53 to the Javelinas.

Caleb Jordan and Kobe Magee were the only Rattlers (9-13, 5-11 LSC) to score in double figures with 10 points each. Jordan was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, but the Rattlers made just 20 of their 57 shots from the field as a team, including 4-of-20 on threes. Matej Gaspert added nine rebounds to tie the Javelinas' (17-5, 13-3 LSC) big man John Mouton for the game high.

The Rattlers started the game off hot with a 12-2 run in the first five minutes, but quickly cooled off, as the Javelinas came back to take a 13-12 lead midway through the first half. They were able to keep it within single digits for the remainder of the half, entering the locker room down eight, 33-25.

St. Mary's came out aggressive in the second half, and was able to cut the deficit to two, 38-36, on a 3-pointer from Jaron Presley five minutes in. Once again the Rattlers were able to keep it close, bringing it back within two points several times, but were unable to get over the jump and regain the lead. The Javelinas went on a 10-0 run over the final 2:14 of the game, shutting out any hope of a Rattler comeback.

The team stays on the road to take on Texas A&M-International in Laredo on Saturday at 3 p.m. Links for live stats and streaming can be found on the schedule page.
