ST. GEORGE, Utah – The St. Mary's University Softball team opened up the Dixie State Courtyard Classic on Thursday afternoon, taking on Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Rattlers fell to 2-4 on the season with a 7-1 loss to the Roadrunners.
The Rattlers picked up their lone run of the game in the top of the third frame.
Tiffany Licon and
Jayme Johns led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
Victoria Aldridge advanced the runners with a groundout to second base and Licon came around to score when
Taylor Germain laid down a bunt.
Amber Gonzalez reached on a two-out single in the seventh and was lifted for a pinch runner,
Aracelli Sanchez. Licon picked up her second hit of the game when she singled to shortstop, Sanchez moved up to third on the hit. The Rattlers were unable to push any runs across in the inning, ultimately ending the game.
Action will continue tomorrow as the Rattlers take on Central Washington University and host Dixie State University in a split double header.
