SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's University Baseball team put together a complete effort on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Cameron University 12-2 to move to 2-0 on the season. The Rattlers sprayed 12 hits in the win including a 4-for-5 day from senior
Keaton Milford (New Braunfels, Texas). Milford finished with two doubles and three RBI as St. Mary's secured the series over Cameron.
St. Mary's starter
Anthony Chavez gave up a leadoff homerun in the top of the first but silenced the Cameron offense for the next five innings. The left hander held the Aggies scoreless for the next five innings while striking out six batters. Chavez picked up the win in his first start with the Rattlers.
Milford led off the home half of the second inning with a double to left field.
Johnny Hernandez turned a Michael Womack fastball around and sent it over the centerfield wall to give the Rattlers a 2-1 lead.

Ryan McGowen reached and both eventually scored on a passed ball to cap off a four-run inning for St. Mary's.
In the bottom of the fourth
Derek Mueller started a two-out rally when he got hit by a pitch to reach. After Mueller stole second,
Jake Mares drove a ball through the infield to drive in Mueller. After an
Andrew Perez walk, Milford roped a double to left center to score Mueller and Perez, extending the St. Mary's lead to 7-1.
The Rattlers added to their lead in the fifth inning as Mueller doubled home
Jake Sims and Scott short who both came on to pinch hit in the inning. Sims, the redshirt freshman picked up the first hit of his career, a single to left field. After five complete innings, St. Mary's led 9-1.
Milford and Hernandez started things against in the sixth with one out and both moved up a base on a Cameron wild pitch.
Fernando Zubia picked up his first RBI as a Rattler when he reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Milford.
Cameron got a run back in the top of the seventh but the Rattlers were able to get two runs in the bottom half, including a run from Mares that ended the game via the 10-run rule.
The Rattler pitching staff faced 28 Cameron batters and only issued one free pass.
The Aggies and Rattlers will conclude the three-game series tomorrow at Dickson Stadium. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
