SAN ANTONIO – Ollie Wright of the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team has signed the first professional contract as the London, England native inked a two-year deal with San Antonio FC of the United Soccer League (USL) Championship league.
"This means the absolute world to me," said Wright. "Coming over to the United States, it was my number one goal. St. Mary's was 100 percent the right choice for me and I am so happy I was able to spend my collegiate years there. I know the boys can really push on now and win a national championship. I look forward to supporting them every step of the way."
Wright, who had a breakout junior season in 2020 helped lead the Rattlers to their best season in program history. Wright was named the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Player of the Year and the D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year. The midfielder finishes his career with 13 goals and 20 assists.
"Ollie has had this dream since he came over to the states and it's something he has worked really hard to achieve," said St. Mary's Men's Soccer Coach
Johnny Clifford. "He sacrificed summer holidays, winter breaks and anything else he had to in order to make this happen. It's very easy to say you want to be a pro, but Ollie put in the work that was required and kept working towards his goal. I could not be prouder of him and we all know this is just the beginning of his pro career. He will be greatly missed but he leaves us for the next step and that was my dream for him!"
