SAN ANTONIO – A late goal in the 79th minute by
Alexia Maldonado propelled the St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State in their first home match and last non-conference match of the 2019 season.
The Rangers' Whitney Blanchard got the scoring started in the 30th minute to give Northwestern Oklahoma the early 1-0 advantage over the Rattlers.
Less than a minute later,
Serena Frank ripped a shot from about 30 yards out that caught the Rangers keeper by surprise and slipped past her for the equalizer. The goal was Frank's second of the season.
St. Mary's dominated possession in the second half but did not have anything to show for it until Maldonado took a
Miranda Narvaez cross and buried it into the back of the net for what would be the game-winner for the Rattlers.
Despite giving up a goal,
Cameron Koerner was solid all night in goal as she faced seven shots, making six saves.
St. Mary's will hit the road to open up Lone Star Conference action next Thursday against Angelo State. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
